The babies are sleeping as I write this, which means I should be sleeping (according to everything I read) or at least doing housework (which is what everything I read says not to be tempted to do when you should be sleeping because the babies are sleeping). I am not tempted to do housework. I have to FORCE myself to do housework.
I’ve been forcing myself to do housework for more than 20 years. (Before that, my mom did the forcing.) Married, had four kids–widely spaced in a reflection of my own maternal reluctance–and was on to the next stage of life with a big grin on my face when I got a double surprise and ended up the 42-almost-43-year-old mother of newborn twins in May of 2009.
Still…mothering has its moments. And they’re incomparable.
